ATI is about to refresh its graphics line with a GDDR4 supporting Radeon X1950 XTX card but it also plans to refresh its top end line with a new R600 chip. If all goes well, the chip should see the light of day before the end of the day, but things can easily slip in this business. The new 80 nanometre chip will dissipate a lot of heat and ATI will make a new even better cooler to cool it down. We know it will be even more advanced and efficient than the previous R580 and R580+ cooler. It has to be even better than the Arctic Cooling to tame this beast. Although the 80 nanometre chips are a little bit cooler, they can be clocked slightly faster but we don't expect much more than 700 to 750MHz core clock.

On the other side, NVIDIA has a very efficient cooler for its GeForce 7900 GTX card and it does the job well but the green company might even introduce the new cooler for its new G80 based card. The current cooler is quite silent due to the heatpipe technology, and we would expect to see NVIDIA to go the same way for their G80 based cooler. As the G80 chip will remain a 90 nanometre chip it might run hotter than ATI's upcoming R600 core. So quite some exciting times coming ahead with both ATI and NVIDIA coming with new chips, as it currently stands NVIDIA's update will be coming first.
