ATI's Radeon X1950 XT has 256MB frame buffer
Written by Mavke

ATI plans one more SKU for the end of the summer. The launch date is still scheduled for 23rd of August and the card is yet again based on the renewed R580+ core. It won't be the top notch Radeon X1950 XTX or CrossFire edition, we are talking about a Radeon X1950 XT card. The Radeon X1950 XT will have 256MB of memory and should also work at a 2.0GHz frequency. It will use the fastest GDDR4 memory and will naturally use a 256-bit interface. This card will likely be ATI's answer to the very sucessful GeForce 7900 GT series from NVIDIA and should be in the same price range. You can expect to find these cards at your local shop at the end of August. - The Inquirer

As already mentioned, at the same time we will see the introduction of the Radeon X1950 XTX and CrossFire edition cards. It looks like the key difference will be the memory size and the Radeon X1950 XT will end up cheaper than the projected €399 to €415 for a Radeon X1950 XTX card. For the Radeon X1950 XTX the core will be clocked at the same speed as the current Radeon X1900 XTX and we suspect a similar logic with the XT version. So the main change is a core refresh and going to the faster GDDR4 memory chips. How the performance will stack up remains to be seen, however it should be faster in the end.
