Some Installation Guidelines

The installation of the RaidSonic ICY BOX IB-NAS2000 doesn't require any experience and is quite easy and user friendly process. First of all we need of course a suitable hard disk, and since the ICY BOX comes with a normal ATA interface we need to match it accordingly. Next to that it has to be a 3.5" drive. So, we picked up a Maxtor 120GB Ultra ATA/133 (DiamondMax Plus 9) hard drive which will be used for carrying out the installation procedure and the testing of the unit.

Let's just put it all together... We have a hard drive, the ICY BOX IB-NAS2000 housing and some screws. That's it; we are set to go an install the hard drive to become a mobile storage device. First of all we check the settings of the hard drive. What should it be? We can set it to be master, slave or cable select. Well for an external storage solution that doesn't matter, so we take the easy way and leave the drive on cable select.

Where it all comes down to is to just take the hard drive and put it in the aluminum case. Once that is done we connect the power molex to the hard disk and do the same with the IDE cable. That shouldn't be anything major till now. But first how does that work on the RaidSonic solution. Well since RaidSonic focused on a very silent operation, it isn't just a straightforward process as the hard drive is not to be screwed on the case inlay at all.

Included with the package are four square rubber blocks which will need to screwed onto the hard disk. On each side we apply two of these rubber blocks by lining up the screw holes on the hard drive with the holes on the rubbers. Now we take the screws and fasten the rubbers on the hard disk. That's it; the hard disk is now ready to go. An excellent way to reduce noise from vibrations...

Now we can just slide the Maxtor 120GB hard drive safely in the ICY BOX aluminum housing and use the remaining screws to fix the case holding the hard drive to the aluminum housing. This way the hard drive is well protected by the case to hold all the hardware components and interconnections. While the housing will be to close it all off and give it a professional and appealing look. To wrap it all up we just need to apply the curved stand.

Okay done, all set to go and play with our new toy. We just need to attach the power supply and the USB 2.0 or Ethernet cable... So the end user has the choice on which interface to use or better which interface his computer can support. In our case we have both USB 2.0 and Ethernet LAN ports available and will compare both in terms of performance and data transfer capabilities.

The RaidSonic storage solution like the ICY BOX IB-NAS2000 series are compatible for us with Windows or Mac based operating systems. So both players that are commonly known by the end users are supported. All Apple owners can also go out and buy this external storage solution and expand their storage capacity thanks to RaidSonic's ICY BOX solution.
