ATI's RV570 XT core becomes the Radeon X1900 GT
Written by Mavke

ATI's upcoming RV570 variation will end up branded as the Radeon X1900 GT. The firm is currently shipping Radeon X1900 GT cards based on R580 chips that have the pipelines crippled but the card based on RV570 XT will be far cheaper to produce. ATI is likely to confuse the market with the current plan and we think it will find a way to differentiate the old Radeon X1900 GT and the new one, so there might be some more numbers or letters added on. The cards are codenamed Hellfire 1 and Hellfire 2 and will run at 600MHz or 650MHz core, depending on the SKU, while the memory will run at 1100MHz. The Hellfire 2 uses GDDR3 memory with a 256-bit memory interface and its memory runs faster than on the Hellfire 1.

Hellfire 2, a Radeon X1900 GT at 650MHz core and 1100MHz memory is the replacement for the Radeon X1900 XT that is supposed to phase out slowly. The Hellfire 1 has eight layers PCB and also uses 600MHz to 650MHz core clock but its memory works at 800MHz and it will probably target the more mainstream market. Both cards are PCI Express and support two dual DVI ports and Avivo marchitecture. Production should start in September and we believe they should be available in October time. In our mind this might cause some confusions at the start, but all depends how well the RV570 will end up.
