Diamond Viper X1900 XT 512MB PCI-E Review
Written by Mavke

Coming from techPowerUp! is a review on the Diamond Viper X1900 XT 512MB PCIe graphics card. I received the Diamond Viper X1900 XT sometime back and I must say at the time the Diamond Viper X1900 XT was the lowest priced option and is still one of the lowest priced cards available today. It's well known that a majority of ATI cards are manufactured in the Sapphire factories and are distributed to other ATI video card OEM's. Since most of these offerings are referred to as ATI reference PCB, we'll lay a Powercolor Radeon X1900 XT along side the Diamond offering. The Diamond Viper X1900 XT sports a nice picture of ATI's Ruby on the stock heatsink. The stock fan is fairly large to meet the cooling needs of this powerful card.

As already know by most, the Radeon X1900 series come from the 90 nanometre technology and stands for high performance in the current gaming titles. The Diamond Viper X1900 XT is no less and is build around the R580 chip that comes clocked at 625MHz core and 1450MHz memory clock speed. On top of that it features 48 shader units to deliver stuning performance. The Samsung memory chips used on the Viper X1900 XT are actually they highly rated 1.1ns versions, which can be clocked upto 1800MHz according to the specifications. So on this some extra performance can be reached.

Overclocking the Radeon X1K series cards is a little different from older generation cards. The cards have more options, and can be easier in certain ways to overclock, but more complex in others. With options to adjust voltages, there is little need to do hardmods to the cards in order to gain the extra juice needed for that nice overclock you dream of. For most enthusiasts the attention is now focused on cooling. When it comes to overclocking the Radeon X1900 series, there are numerous choices of software you can use. ATITool will be our choice to use for overclocking.

Needless to say the Diamond Viper X1900 XT was no slouch and played games at high resolutions with ease. This in no way takes away from the fact that the Diamond Viper X1900 XT itself is a solid performer and does provide a new level to gaming. I like that Diamond made the effort to distinguish their card from just another plain ATI reference PCB. I would recommend the Diamond Viper X1900 XT, which competes in a highly competitive OEM market.
