Pininfarina Case & Design Going one step further we started to open up the package to finally meet the Spire Pininfarina aluminum computer case in full glory. We just have to mention and actually give Spire high marks for the way they took extra care in packaging the Pininfarina case, to start with the shipping carton is constructed of extremely heavy duty cardboard which provides the a great outer shell to protect this special case. Next are the pieces of styrofoam used on each end of the case to protect it in the event that the carton is dropped or bumped. So on the packaging and protection that Spire had used you can give any critics, but rather give em the thumbs up and hope that others will take the same approach.
Yeah, designed by Pininfarina... Would you have noticed it? Well we wouldn't mind if you say no, however you must admit that the design it quite impressive. The name Pininfarina is more know from the design of cars, and then we even would think immediately about those fancy sport cars. Well nonetheless the design from Pininfarina is now really expanding to quite some others products as well. And one of those is done for Spire with this stylish aluminum Pininfarina computer case. Looking at the grey finish on the case I can safely say it is as close to perfection as you can get. It is smooth and flawless as far as the paint application goes giving the case a very nice appearance.
After removing the case from its styrofoam you will find a plastic cling wrapper that starts at the bottom of the door on the front of the case and wraps over the top of the case and ends finally at the bottom of the case on the rear panel of the Pininfarina. Like already said, the entire rear and top are covered with this protective film. When you see the finish of the exterior you will understand why such care was taken to protect it. Taking a glance over the outside of the case, you'll notice a few things immediately. The front of the case is clear of any decoration, aside from a small Spire logo on the door. The front of the case is covered with a 6 mm thick slab of aluminum. This is a nice touch that gives the case a very finished look. Not only that but the thickness of the aluminum is such that with the door closed over the optical drives there's nearly zero noise.
Moving around to the back side, the metal treatment continues. Unlike most cases, which leave the back bare, Spire and Pininfarina chose to dress up the business end. Also noticeable is the fact that there are no exposed screws, giving even the back of the case a polished, sleek look. Mounting a power supply, however, requires that you pull the back side cover off the case, which is relatively painless. Durable, steel spring clips hold the back cover in place, but release with a firm tug. Given the thickness of the metal covering, there is no worry of breaking the cover.
Next to the outstanding design, Spire also put their focus on what is important when buying a new computer case. As already mentioned the retail box is top notch, and we couldn't think of any improvements that could be done. The other focus points are the silent operation of the case itself, working at low temperature by providing superior cooling and the fan guard feature. All these features combined with the Pininfarina design make this case unique. Doing so Spire has combined design with innovation within one single PC case.
