NVIDIA's GeForce 7950 GX2 is top, selling well
Written by Mavke

NVIDIA is now selling its market leading GeForce 7950 GX2 cards. Sales are good but not as great as many might expect. There are a few reasons for this, and none of them is really NVIDIA's fault, except for the timing. Summer time is usually terribly slow for the industry, as people are thinking about how to spend their money on vacations rather than on graphics cards. And the World Cup in Germany adds a further distraction, as many people paid a few hundred Euro's to get to Germany and to see some of the games. That kills most of the savings for a high-end computer. The third and undoubtedly the biggest problem is that many of NVIDIA partners have trouble with allocation.

The allocation problems should disappear on the first day of July, we hear, so hang on to your horses. NVIDIA is still fairly safe, as ATI's competitive product won't arrive before the end of September, and even then its tough to say whether its R580+ has enough muscle to beat NVIDIA's GeForce 7950 GX2. It had better have, I reckon, if ATI wants to stay in the game. The Geforce 7950 GX2 will remain the fastest performing card at least until the end of the summer, you can count on that, and only a pair of GeForce 7950 GX2 cards might run faster. But for twice as much money, of course.
