Comparison: DDR vs DDR2

In brief both systems where put at stock settings, both using 800MHz FSB and at this configuration current DDR2 has a slight edge over performance of the Mushkin LII V2. While the two configurations are drastically different the synthetic results are apples to apples when it comes to memory bandwidth.

These results strickly show how much data is being processed at the memory level, so in that regard we find that the results are a rough estimate and does not reflect what you or anyone else will realise. On our systems these are the results and they may vary from what you or anyone else can achieve.

Sandra Benchmark DDR400 DDR2 675
Int Buff'diSSE2 4305MB/s 4961MB/s
Float Buff'd iSSE2 4316MB/s 4966MB/s
Maximum Bus Bandwidth 6400MB/s 6400MB/s

The DDR2 Test Rig

  • DFI LANParty™ 925X-T2 Motherboard
  • Intel® Pentium® 4 550 LGA 775 3.4GHz CPU
  • Corsair TwinX2 XMS2 Pro 675MHz DDR2
  • Antec Neo Power 480watt Modular PSU

DDR2 Chipset 1 @ 3.4GHz

  • Model: Intel Corporation 925x Memory Controller Hub
  • Front Side Bus Speed: 4x 200MHz (800MHz data rate)
  • Width: 64-bit
  • Maximum Bus Bandwidth: 6400MB/s (estimated)

Check that your memory latency times are set properly for your product, you may have to manually configure these timings.
