Hardware Secrets presents us a review on the XFX GeForce 7600 GT 256MB XXX Edition graphics card. The GeForce 7600 GT is the top mid-range GPU from NVIDIA and XFX has this XXX edition, which comes factory overclocked. The NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT normally runs at 560MHz accessing its memory at 1.4GHz. The XXX edition model from XFX runs at 590MHz, accesses its memory at 1.6GHz and features a black PCB. The XFX GeForce 7600 GT comes equipped with 256MB Infineon 1.4ns graphics memory. These chips can run up to 1.4GHz and on the XXX edition card the memory chips are overclocked and run at 1.6GHz, 200MHz above the maximum clock rate labeled for these memory chips.
XFX GeForce 7600 GT 256MB XXX Edition Review
The GeForce 7600 GT is definitely the best mid-range VGA card available today, beating high-end cards from NVIDIA's previous family, like the GeForce 6800 GT and GeForce 6800 GS. Also, the GeForce 7600 GT simply smoked the Radeon X1600 XT, making us wonder why someone would buy a Radeon X1600 XT or would think about about getting such a board. And in several scenarios the GeForce 7600 GT achieved more than double the performance of a GeForce 6600 GT, a video card we think that has the best cost/benefit ratio for the average user looking for good performance paying spending up to $130.
While this video card can be found at about $210, on average, you will find it being sold at $190 on some etailers. The standard GeForce 7600 GT also from XFX is quoted at $180, so the price difference between this card and a standard GeForce 7600 GT is of only 10 bucks. So, it is worthwhile paying $10 more and order an overclocked model? We think so if you are willing to increase image quality settings in your games, as this overclocked model was faster than standard GeForce 7600 GT particularly when we increased the image quality settings. The performance difference between them was quite noticeable.
Do you like to play games in high resolutions? Do you like to increase video quality settings a little bit in your games? Do you have up to $200 to spend on a video card? This is the video card for you. If you don't enable video quality settings it will provide you a very high performance even in high resolutions. If you enable video quality settings in high resolutions, it will still provide you a decent performance.
