MSI GeForce 7600 GT 256MB PCI-E Review
Written by Mavke

nV News comes with a review on the MSI GeForce 7600 GT 256MB PCIe graphics card. The newest generation of graphics processors from NVIDIA is very exciting. For those who cannot afford to upgrade to the latest and greatest GeForce 7900 series, MSI has produced an excellent budget card in the GeForce 7600 GT that can handle almost anything you can throw at it. Comparing the features of the NVIDIA GeForce 7600 with its bigger brother, the GeForce 7900, it becomes obvious that the GeForce 7600 is meant to be more of a budget card. The GeForce 7600 contains 12 pixel pipes, while the GeForce 7900 has 24. The GeForce 7600 also has 5 vertex shaders, compared to the 8 of the GeForce 7900.

The GeForce 7600 series supports Intellisample 4.0, a very cool technology that includes the two new antialiasing modes. These are transparency adaptive supersampling and transparency adaptive multisampling. Both increase the performance and quality of antialiasing. The MSI GeForce 7600 GT has an increased core clock speed of 580MHz, 20MHz higher than standard GeForce 7600 GT's. It also has an increased memory clock speed of 1500MHz, 100MHz higher than standard GeForce 7600 GT's. The MSI GeForce 7600 GT has a special cooling design, causing it to take up two slots.

MSI has built a technology into their drivers called Dynamic Overclocking Technology. MSI claims this is the easiest way to optimize the GPU and memory speed for maximum performance. MSI also claims this technology smartly detects and saves the GPU from overheating and overspeeding. The card already comes clocked higher than a normal GeForce 7600 GT, so anything else that you can squeeze out of it is cool. The maximum clock speeds that I could getwere 599MHz core clock and 1594MHz memory clock. Certainly not a bad result at all for the GeForce 7600 GT.

This is a great card with a lot of kick for a small price tag. I couldn't get it to overclock to the full settings that were documented, but it performed as good as I had hoped. For those users looking to get an all-around excellent budget card, this one should be at the top of your list. As a budget card with excellent features, the MSI GeForce 7600 GT earns a grand slam.
