We spoke with many a person about nVidia drivers and we learned that the highly anticipated WHQL driver is getting very close, as close as the ninth month (November) in the Northern Hemisphere.
Beta GeForce 6 driver spotted in the wild
An nVidia senior software chap confirmed that its driver has passed WHQL for all GeForce 6 or earlier cards but at this time they are meditating on compatibility.
The WHQL'd nVidia driver, ready for all cards, should come sometimes in week 46, the one that starts on the 8th of November in the Western calendar.
You can download nVidia ForceWare v66.81 and we are told that this driver is 99.99% similar to the one that will be posted on nVidia in just a few weeks.
nVidia said it is testing its older products in order to get all of its UDA (Unified Driver Architecture) ducks in a row. This means that all of the cards from TNT 2 to 6800 Ultra have to work flawlessly and this does not refer to WHQL only.
WHQL is only a test of driver stability. nVidia reminds us that it has thousands of game titles and developers and publishers using its technology and they detest driver bugs.
They all want all and everything to work flawlessly, otherwise nVidia will get thwacked with endless criticism and much overuse of the much overused word "issues".
I smell SLI in the sky and my sniffing apparatus detects that it will come soon. |
