Now having looked in some depth at the performance of the top end cards of the new range FireGL cards; we now move onwards looking at the Mid Range cards were price performance ratio is heavily focused upon. In pops the uncompressing nifty little FireGL V5200. What does this card have to offer the end user at this end of the scale? Designed with a 10-bit display pipeline and High Dynamic Range (HDR) 16-bit per RGB colour component output capability, ATI FireGL workstation graphics accelerators with Avivo technology can produce over one trillion colours for the most vibrant visual fidelity.
ATI FireGL V5200 256MB PCI-E Review
On discussions with ATI we were a tad sceptical that this new card would deliver what was promised. One can clearly see from the results above that they have got it right. This remarkable little card has certainly proven it has a punch throughout the scales. It is quick, quiet and draws very little power from the PCI Express lane. Acoustics' from the card, nothing to concern the individual as this is one quiet little card. Once more we observed just about complete silence from the whole system. So no complains so far as noice has become quite an important factor these days.
Performance throughout SPEC Viewperf took us totally by surprise as in some areas nearly matching the FireGL V7300 with the current driver set. For those of you who work seriously with these professional applications it's a card not to be dismissed so easily, as one really does have value for money in this card in the mid range price bracket. Importantly, stability of the product is extremely good with no glitches that we could observe throughout our stringent tests. Once more the driver set released some time back certainly has proven to be remarkably sound, even with the addition of this new range of cards.
Current MRSP $678 cards are shipping already and are in high demand. Distributors are coping with demand from system integrators and value added resellers. To summarise ATI has maintained its promise of an extensive delivery out of a range of cards which has certainly won back many old and new customers with this new string of cards. On a price point scenario it most certainly is worth seriously considering this neat piece of kit.
