Spotted on kGuru3D is a review
on the XFX GeForce 7900 GTX XXX
512MB PCIe graphics card. I think XFX has the most difficult to understand product line-up. Yes,
they have launched the GeForce 7 series line. But next to the normal model there
can be up to five other versions of that graphics card. We'll have to wait and
see until I receive the final specifications, but consumer confusion is
something you need to avoid these days, what with the large amount of products
available. The XXX edition of the GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB from XFX means you receive a card
that has been pre-overclocked by default, so there's no need for you to
overclock manually.

7900 GTX XXX 512MB PCI-E Review
Two huge benefits come from this, the first being your overclocking is
covered by warranty. Secondly, these cards have been pre-tested by XFX to see if they actually can
take a high overclock, something which is always a bit of a gamble with a
regular card. Here's a thought. Since we know XFX is testing these cards manually, the regular versions
likely will not overlock as well as they did not pass the Extreme or XXX edition
qualification. So the XXX edition, what's overclocked then? Basically two
things, the core and memory chips on the GeForce 7900 GTX based video
card.
First being the graphics core as it's running at a sweet 700MHz
speed, up from the default 650MHz settings. Of course next to the GPU the most
important thing is its memory to work in. We call this the framebuffer, and the
faster it is the higher your memory bandwidth to work in will be. Suffice to say
that the GeForce 7900 GTX is armed with the latest and fastest memory available.
The XXX version comes with a clock of 1800MHz and that's a lot of bandwidth for
sure. This new, better priced flagship product shows potential for sure due to
it's faster clocks.
Well obviously you knew from the first page already
that this small midget would be fast? Yeah it is. I'm not really 100% confident
if I would buy the XXX edition though. Don't get me wrong here, this is
tremendous performance, but fact is this card is pushed to the maximum. We
literally had no room left to overclock, 15MHz upwards and we'd see lockups.
Then again, this card is covered by a two year warranty which is a pretty safe
bet. Plus also, when you are not into overclocking and all that's involved with
it this might be your solution. Evidently this is a product and a half for
sure.
What you definitely need to bare in mind is that it is a decent
amount faster than the GeForce 7800 GTX 512MB and it's priced $150 cheaper, so
you definitely need to choose the GeForce 7900 over a GeForce 7800. The card we
tested today originated from XFX and it's the XXX edition which means it's overclocked
straight out of the box for you. It surely did not have a very luxurious
software bundle but you do get a game for free. The XFX GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB XXX
edition was a feast for the eyes to test and it offers heaps of performance and
brings you fantastic gameplay at the highest resolutions.
