OCZ EB DDR PC-4000 2GB Platinum Dual Channel Kit

We have the pleasure of looking at one of the newest memory kits that OCZ has unleashed, namely the 2x 1024MB PC4000 EB Platinum Edition kit that boasts the tightest timings to date for a 2GB pair. The 184-pin (unbuffered, non ECC) DDR DIMM's are dual channel compatible and have a default rated speed of 250MHz. Default timings are one of the tightest available and set at 3-3-2-8. To reach speeds of 500MHz DDR, the memory is rated for use with voltages as high as 2.7V, improved memory bandwidth and a lifetime warranty!

Needless to say the standards at which today's computer system's need memory, are soon going to be considered entry level, while the migration to 2048MB systems is happening at haze, within a years time OEM's will be using 2048MB as default configuration. Associated to the myth of high capacity 2048MB dual channel kits, are the higher densities create latencies undesirable to the overclocking enthusiast. The OCZ EB PC-4000 Platinum Edition memory came in the somewhat standard plastic package which contains OCZ's latest offering in high-performance memory. The packaging is somehow what other manufactures are using as well, a thin plastic package equipped with the memory and specifications. In that way OCZ doesn't stands out in the crowd by using a different way on getting their memory products to the market. On top of that the package can be reused, as it is held together with two buttons up top which are easy to open and secure again.

The elegant platinum heatspreaders help the modules sell themselves and OCZ knows this, so they opt for a simple plastic package with the modules clearly visible for all eyes to see and drool over. The big OCZ label stretched across the top of the cardboard insert is also a big selling point. With that OCZ name comes quality and high performance that is well known amongst all enthusiasts and overclockers alike. At the side you will find the dual channel indication exclaiming that this pair of modules has been hand tested to run as a matched pair.

The cardboard insert is a generic one used on a number of other modules and OCZ is able to do this because they label each and every module with a sticker seen above. This sticker provides the speed, size, part number, series and timings of each module. You will also notice on the lower right hand corner where OCZ's warranty is outlined, you will not see the word limited anywhere. Instead OCZ clearly states that their memory is backed by a lifetime warranty.

The backside is where OCZ take a little time to toot their own horn and rightfully so, they earned the right to. They outline the features of their memory covering the performance, quality, and technical support aspects, as well as discussing the lifetime warranty. The lifetime warranty is actually offered on all modules they are selling. All well considered their package certainly has the looks and will attract potential buyers quite easily.
