Enhanced Performance Results (Cont.)

To see the outcome on the performance by the change on the memory timings we will use the Everest Ultimate Edition software suite from Lavalys once again for compiling the results. The Everest Ultimate Edition has several benchmark items that can be executed to get to the bottom of the impact with the adjusted memory timings on the actual performance.

We used the memory as before at 200MHz bus speed, but with adjusted timings. The memory latencies used have been decreased to the bare minimum which gave us a 2-2-2-5 as outcome. We will now check how the timings will influence the performance of the Crucial memory dual channel modules.

Memory Read Results

Having optimized the memory timings we get immediately an increase of performance delivered by the Ballistix Tracer DDR500 memory. The Crucial memory puts down a score of 6136MB/s which is a significant increase of about 120MB/s. Keep in mind that we are still running these ram sticks at only 400MHz DDR. So there is more to gain from these DDR500 ram sticks once we unleash em at full 500MHz speed.

Memory Write Results

Again we see impressive scores with the write sequence; here we get a solid 4261MB/s of constant write allocations to the Ballistix Tracer PC-4000 ram. Looking back at the default results we spot a boost of about 50MB/s. So on this we don't see that much of a difference due to the tighter timings used.

Memory Copy Results

Moving on we have arrived at the Copy results, these show us a score of 4237MB/s an increase of about 280MB/s over the standard latencies. These Ballistix Tracer modules do benefit quite a lot from the more appropriate memory timings applied and put down a remarkable boost in performance.

Memory Latency Results

The Latency results have improved as well and have gone down to 108.6ns. At default these had been reported as 111.4ns so a small change can be seen. This is still not that impressive but isn't that significant in the overall performance picture of the memory results.

After adjusting the memory timings towards the DDR400 levels, well actually lowering them down to the minimum of 2-2-2-5, the Crucial Ballistix Tracer shows off some outstanding performance. So by going for the Crucial PC-4000 ram modules you can still use these for normal DDR400 operation and they deliver excellent performance as such. Well done Crucial!
