Final Thoughts Now that we all gotten used to the dual-GPU technology reintroduced by NVIDIA via their SLI option and followed by ATI with their CrossFire alternative the tables have turned with Quad SLI. NVIDIA has once again gone one step further and put a total of four GPU's together in a quad-GPU or the so called Quad SLI technology. The first version was only available from Dell with their XPS 600 Renegade system that featured four GeForce 7800 GTX 512MB GPU's. This first Quad SLI configuration was exclusively announced by NVDIA and Dell. Since the introduction of the G71, NVIDIA has informed its partners of the customer Quad SLI implementation with the GeForce 7900 GX2 graphics card. So if you where thinking that two graphics cards was overkill, NVIDIA ups the ante by introducing Quad SLI. A technology that is based upon quad-GPU technology running in SLI configuration to deliver stunning fast 3D gaming experience. The best part about Quad SLI technology is that NVIDIA doesn't require anything special to get it up and running, just your normal nForce4 SLI X16 motherboard should work fine. The Quad SLI systems should be available from a decent range of vendors. Whereas currently the cards aren't sold separatly but only can be ordered with new PC systems. Quad SLI is largely designed for rendering at high resolutions, such as the 2560x1600 offered by The Apple 30" LCD Cinema display. While any current single board might struggle to get frames drawn at that resolution, with IQ turned up, at playable frame rates, four GPU's each with their own memory should manage it in almost all modern games. Of course to enjoy all that rendering power delivered by a quad-GPU setup, you will need to pair it up with a more then decent dual core CPU from either AMD or Intel. Going down that lane we would opt for an Athlon 64 X2/FX-60 or the upcoming Conroe processor.
Pros - Amazing Speed and Power
- Gorgeous Design and Functionality
- Great SLI in a Nutshell
- Future Proof Performance
- SLI Ready, Quad SLI Expandable
- Decent Overclocking Ability
- Innovative Concept
Cons - Quite Expensive
- Power Hungry System
