OCWorkbench reveals a review on the ASUS Extreme N7600 GT 256MB PCIe graphics card. The ASUS Extreme N7600 GT is ASUS's first graphics card based on the new NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT. This card uses high speed GDDR3 memory interface support for the world's fastest GDDR3 memory delivers fluid frame rates for even the most advanced games and applications. At a core speed of 560MHz and memory speed at 1400MHz, this card surpasses the performance of the ATI Radeon X1600 XT graphics card and is comparable to the Radeon X1800 GTO. It can be paired with another card to run in SLI mode and does not require external power connector.
ASUS Extreme N7600 GT 256MB PCI-E Review
ASUS never surprises us as
one of the early adopters of new graphics cores. Although there are many makers
out there, this ASUS Extreme
N7600 GT impressed me with its green colour design. In terms of packaging, it
also threw in one of the hottest games King Kong. Overclocking wise, we tried to
overclock the card beyond the 610MHz mark but we only managed to get it stable
at 610MHz with GDDR3 running at 1600MHz. Compared to the Radeon X1800 GTO which
we overclocked from 500MHz to 580MHz, the 560MHz to 610MHz does not seem much,
only a 50MHz increment.
The scores are also pretty good at defaults and
overclocked comparable to the Radeon X1800 GTO. Just like the GeForce 6600
series of cards, the GeForce 7600 GT doesn't require additional power connector
for running in single or SLI mode. That is really a plus as ATI cards require higher power
especially for CrossFire. With the latest drivers installed, PureVideo is
enabled and you can catch your WMVHD or H.264 video clips by offloading the CPU.
ATI's Radeon X1K series also can
playback H.264 but there is no WMVHD acceleration.
The NVIDIA card just
lacks a competiting product to ATI's Avivo converter which allows video compression and
conversion. In our test, the card ran smoothly with no major issues encountered.
The performance of the card is comparable to the Radeon X1800 GTO with some wins
and lose in some benchmarks. When purchasing a card, it will all come down to
pricing and packaging. I would say the ASUS Extreme N7600 GT is a strategic product with good
pricing.
