Gaming Benchmarks (Cont.) Let's continue with the next games we have selected, being Far Cry and Quake 4. Both games who are very popular amongst gamers and that will give a good idea on the performance delivered by the GeForce 7800 GS.

Who doesn't know the game Far Cry? It was the game that came out right before Half-Life 2, Doom 3 and so on and set some new standards in gaming experience. Without a doubt, Far Cry was the most advanced graphics seen in any PC game. Everything in this game looks amazing, and the level of verisimilitude is unprecedented. Far Cry isn't just a stunning technical accomplishment. It's quite possibly the best single-player first-person shooter experience for the PC since Half-Life. Since Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 came out Far Cry had to share the welt on de gaming market. Far Cry - 1024x768 Gaming Results | GeForce 6800 GT | GeForce 7800 GS SC | No AA | 53.54 fps | 54.16 fps | 2x AA | 53.50 fps | 53.89 fps | 4x AA | 53.40 fps | 53.64 fps | HDR | 48.07 fps | 48.76 fps |
Far Cry - 1280x1024 Gaming Results | GeForce 6800 GT | GeForce 7800 GS SC | No AA | 52.72 fps | 53.82 fps | 2x AA | 52.66 fps | 53.62 fps | 4x AA | 51.58 fps | 52.37 fps | HDR | 35.73 fps | 42.28 fps |
Far Cry keeps amazing me with the game play itself; on top of that it is one excellent game to checkout the performance of a graphics card. And on that we can keep to the same findings as before with X3; Reunion, each of our cards performs within very close range with the GeForce 7800 GS just a tiny bit in front. Far Cry is also the one game where you can enable HDR. This comes in handy as it adds some more complexity and processing towards the video accelerator. The GeForce 7800 GS definitly has the edge when HDR is enabled.

To finish of our gaming performance we couldn't just leave Quake 4 out of our real gaming experience results. Quake 4 is based upon id Software's revolutionary Doom 3 technology. Furthermore, Quake 4 wasn't even developed by id Software internally; it instead outsourced game development to the capable minds at Raven Software, who have turned in a fantastic looking game with a great single-player campaign. The multiplayer, however, is underwhelming. Quake was among the first PC shooters to let you take your multiplayer matches onto the Internet, and over the years, the series has become synonymous with great technology and exciting multiplayer. Quake 4 - 1024x768 Gaming Results | GeForce 6800 GT | GeForce 7800 GS SC | No AA | 88.0 fps | 89.1 fps | 2x AA | 82.3 fps | 85.7 fps | 4x AA | 70.6 fps | 75.8 fps |
Quake 4 - 1280x1024 Gaming Results | GeForce 6800 GT | GeForce 7800 GS SC | No AA | 77.5 fps | 85.5 fps | 2x AA | 66.4 fps | 77.3 fps | 4x AA | 50.3 fps | 64.1 fps |
The Quake 4 gaming results show much similarities towards what we saw with Doom 3. This shouldn't surprise you as both are based upon the same 3D engine developed by id Software. The frame rates are very close between both cards, but once we move to a higher screen resolution, the GeForce 7800 GS pulls away. The processing power of the G70 chip is certainly has the advantage over the last generation GeForce 6 series.
