Installation

And so we come to the part of installing the RaidSonic ICY BOX, or rather to get a hard drive installed in the ICY BOX enclosure. The installation of the ICY BOX doesn't require any experience and is a quite easy and user friendly process. First of all we need of course a suitable hard disk, and since the ICY BOX comes with a normal ATA interface we need to match it accordingly. As this is a 2.5" case, we will need to go for a so called notebook 2.5" drive.

So, we picked up a Hitachi TravelStar 80GB IDE (5400rpm) hard drive which will be used for carrying out the installation procedure and the testing of the unit. To start of the installation process we need to remove the backplate by just lifting it up. On the inside of the backplate we find a bag of screws. These we will need to close it all up once the hard disk is installed. The installation of the hard disk is a matter of seconds as you just need to slide it in and that's it. As simple as can be!

Once done we put back the backplate on the case and can use the screws to secure it. But before that we still have the leather flap which we will have to use as well. The leather flap comes with two holes that are matching the holes on the backplate. So we just need to make sure we also secure the leather flap while securing the backplate. After applying the screws we are all done.

The final step is turning the ICY BOX device and we can close the leather flap by clicking it on the press stud. Oh I almost forgot, just at the back you have as well a small USB extension which can be hidden away. Isn't that a nice external enclosure? It looks like a pocket agenda but it's really a removable storage device. Well I have to hand it to RaidSonic they have made a professional external storage solution.

The RaidSonic storage solution like the ICY BOX UB-281U series is compatible for us with Windows or Mac based operating systems. So both players that are commonly know by the end users, are supported. All Apple owners can also go out and buy this external storage solution and expand their storage capacity thanks to RaidSonic's ICY BOX solution.
