And another review this time coming from Virtual Zone, they took a look at the Asus Radeon X600 XT Extreme. The Asus Radeon X600 XT Extreme is different from other cards in its market segment not only by appearance, but also by output and onboard VIVO capability. It is the only mainstream graphics card that replaces the standard VGA output we know and love and incorporates a new HDTV output instead, and is among the few that offer VIVO (video-in/video-out).
Asus Radeon X600 XT Extreme Review
The Asus Radeon X600 XT Extreme is just another indication that the engineers at Asus know what it takes to stay one step ahead of the competition in the graphics card industry. Today we've had the chance to take a long, hard look at the Asus Radeon X600 XT Extreme, and for the most part we were left with a positive feeling about the card.
First we have to talk about performance. As expected, the Asus Radeon X600 XT Extreme performs almost identically to the reference ATI Radeon X600 XT we tested with it, all the while just obliterating the Albatron PCX5750. ATI's new Catalyst 4.10 driver with AI enabled helps increase frame rates in Doom 3 and Unreal Tournament 2004, but does not effect any other games we tested today.
It's also important to note that since the Asus Radeon X600 XT Extreme is a few months old, a new breed of mainstream GPU's from ATI and nVidia will be hitting retail in the next few months, so for those interested in frame-rates over everything else, it may be wise to save your money for the next generation.
With that said, those interested in VIVO capability and out of the box HDTV support have finally found their ultimate solution. This makes the Asus Radeon X600 XT Extreme ideal for HTPC enthusiasts, particularly those that own SFF systems like the Shuttle SB83G5, where your PC would look great hooked up to a huge HDTV display.
Asus not only included VIVO and HDTV support out of the box, but also used a unique cooling solution and tan colored PCB to further diversify itself from competitive Radeon X600 XT graphics cards. The card's blue LED fan looks great in the dark and is just one of the many small touches that make the Asus Radeon X600 XT Extreme a very unique and exclusive product. |
