Leadtek WinFast A400 Ultra TDH Review
Written by Mavke

Gamers-Depot has send word about their Leadtek WinFast A400 Ultra TDH review. Leadtek's continuing stance on technology shines on with its latest GeForce 6800 Ultra card which is among the fastest video card we've tested. It's wrapped in a huge copper heatsink that shrouds the GPU and DDR3 modules with effective active cooling that does make the card take up two slots.

nVidia's 6800 Ultra GPU continues it's position as a world-leading performance chip that ATI has had to stay on its heels to compete against. It's easier to find in retail, offers the best performance going in Doom 3 and is priced competitive relative to its performance offering.

In the end, Leadtek delivers another solid card that'd make any gamer happy. The A400 Ultra TDH delivers performance in spades while retaining its cool and even allows for some good overclocking. Our last check this card pricing out at $600 dollars – quite an expensive proposition by any measure – and a sad one for Leadtek and other add-in board makers. What we have is a case of supply and demand – where the demand for high-end consumer cards are out-pacing the available supply to top retailers so they can get away with charging extraordinary amounts for the products.

Taking up two slots make it a no-go for small form-factor PCs and its requirement for dual molex power connectors mean you have to have a rather beefy power supply to feed this beast. The latter isn't our primary concern, but Leadtek should've considered that there are a lot of gamers out there who'd love to slap an ultra in their new Shuttle case.

Additionally, you'd think for a street price of around $600 dollars, that they could at least throw in a copy of Doom 3 like quite a few other nVidia-based add-in board makers are doing. With the GT version offering close to the same performance levels, add-in board makers and nVidia should think about ways to bring the prices down on the Ultra models across the board.

All that being said, we love the performance and overclocking the A400 Ultra offers and stand by it as being one of the more solid video cards you can buy right now.
