The Cool-Matic NV40/45/LE

Here is where things start getting interesting, first off, we have two GeForce 6800 Ultra's in SLI mode that are going to be on the receiving end of the Innovatek Cool-Matic 501-010's. The Cool-Matic comes in two flavors the 501010 and the 501011 with and without LED lighting. We happen to have the LED lighted version and will work with these bad boys.

Features

  • One Side Cooler (does not cool backside of card)
  • Light-up LED layer adds a cool blue glow to the video card
  • Includes holding plate
  • Installation Manual

PNY Technologies supplied MVKTech with the PNY Verto 6800 Ultra for us to use on various reviews and we can't thank them enough! What we will do is flash the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra Eng Sample to clone the PNY Verto 6800 Ultra and stuff them in our test bed in SLI Mode.

The Innovatek Cool-Matic NV40/45/LE is especially designed to water cool the NVIDIA NV40/45 (GeForce 6800 Series) VGA cards. The cooler features an integrated copper core with special flow design and does not only cool the GPU and the memory but also the voltage transformers on the VGA card. Now we can dismantle our GeForce 6800 Ultra's and get ready to water cool these specimens.

For best results, disassemble the entire card as shown and take a look at how the Cool-Matic and the GPU will go together. Inspect the memory and GPU surfaces to ensure you have a flat surface. One way we do that is by doing what we call foot-print test. Having old white silicon thermal paste on hand comes in handy when doing a foot print test. Simply dope the memory, GPU and the voltage transformers with the thermal paste and marry the Cool-Matic and GPU as if you where installing it.

Using the weight of the Cool-Matic, allow the surfaces to settle by gently installing the included screws and do a mock-up installation before initial installation to see whether or not you have sufficient contact. In most cases you will have no problems, but we like to see what we have and how much pressure will be needed to seat the Cool-Matic to the GeForce 6800 Ultra.

Nice! The Cool-Matic makes a excellent contact with the GeForce 6800 Ultra PCI-e NV45. Our test show the weight alone provides excellent coverage over the CPU, memory and power transformers. The Cool-Matic "fits-like-a-glove" and lays flat to the card as it should. Now we can do final assembly on the GeForce 6800 Ultra's.
