sUrface1030™ Archetype The Product The sUrface1030 Archetype comes in two versions, both comprised of a double-sided mousing surface which rests in a new durable hard base component. The standard version comes with a base that has a plush, Soft-Feel Plastic finish and the MBA version comes with a base that has been machined out of a block of aluminum alloy for those who want the very best and are willing to spend a bit more for it. At first glance the sUrface1030™ Archetype is a beautiful work of art with every attention given to details.
Once out of the carton the new sUrface1030™ Archetype shines with refinement. The light weight durable components compliment each other with form and functionality. Both the Soft-feel Plastic and MBA versions are equally impressive, offering the same performance and action in which both models are comprised of three separate components. The entire package from start to finish is amazing and I must say fUnc has made quite and impression since I have opened the carton.
Under the hood we find posh velvet molded insert that houses the sUrface1030™ Archetype, a product line brochure, cord clip and a huge 2" case badge sticker. The tin carton is a re-usable container for storing and transporting your gaming surface. It will also protect it from the elements and will help keep you cord clip readily available. Now that we looked at what’s inside the container, let’s check out the components.
Double-Sided Surface Component The reversible surface sheet will allow the user to choose between two unique surfaces by flipping the surface component to the desired texture. The same state of the art textures are carried over with the new Archetype series and you can choose from 10.S (smooth) and 30R (rough) by simply flipping the surface component over at your convenience and have the two of the best surfaces to choose from. 10.S (smooth): A fine textured surface geometry based on a specially selected low Ra parameter and is popular with those who prefer the feel of mouse on a smooth surface. 30.R (rough): A medium textured surface geometry based on a specially selected moderate Ra parameter and is popular with those who prefer the feel of mousing on a textured surface.
A clear view on both the surface textures (10.S - soft and 30.R - rough) of the sUrface1030 Archetype that are provided within the fUnc package. The 10.S is not really grey in color, that is just how the camera picked up the smoother surface, I am by no means a professional photographer, but we do our best to represent the product, so I wanted to let others know that as well. It's just a camera anomaly. Base Component The base of the Archetype is very well thought out. It is constructed out of a Soft-Feel Plastic, which feels almost like suede or a soft rubber. The design and specifications of the Soft-Feel Plastic and MBA base component are identical in nature, that is, there is no difference in height, length or width and offer the exact same critcally acclaimed performance, giving you the best gaming surface money can buy.
As mentioned, both base component are the same except for the color which indicates the difference between the soft-feel plastic and aluminium base. So it is up to your own personal choice on which base you would like to use... I would probably use the aluminium during Summer and the soft-feel plastic during winter.
Whether you choose the Soft-feel Plastic or the MBA (Machine Billet Aluminum) version of the sUrface1030™ Archetype, the included base component houses the surface component sheet and incorporates non-slip feet to make sure the sUrface1030 stays in place on your desktop. There are also two finger holes located in the top right-hand and bottom left-hand corners of the base. These holes provide a means to easily remove and flip over the surface component. Cord Clip Component I am sure most of us and fussed over mouse cords and how they tend to become tangled up and often get hung up on something. To eliminate all that hassle with fighting and tugging on mouse cords, fUnc Industries has been including Cord Clips with there products to reduce the anti-social behavior associated with altercations with mouse cords. To circumvent the situation, fUnc Industries includes the Clip Cord Component to tame those pain-in-the-rear mouse cords.
The Cord Clip is easily attached to the Base Component by two recessed areas on the base plate. Flipping the base over you can easily spot the two areas in which the Cord Clip Component attaches to the Base Component.
