Out of Specification Over Clocking What we did her was bump up the HTT of the DFI LANParty SLI-DR mother board from 200MHz to a very modest 210MHz and we noticed the R480 core really starts to shine when pushing the card to its maximum over clock. We got some astonishing results pushing the iTurbo sliders all the way to the right. With a core clock of 550MHz and a memory clock of 1200MHz, the HIS X800 GTO IceQ II Turbo ran without artifacts or problems, the benchmarks ran fast and stable. Let's take a look at our results.
HIS iTurbo v1.4.1 @ 550MHz Engine - 1.2GHz Memory By turning up the speed even more with the HIS iTurbo software we basically arrived at the maximum supported speeds. The iTurbo over clocking utility has maxed out at 550MHz core and 1.2GHz memory speeds. Yes indeed, these overclocking values are higher then the Radeon X850 XT which runs typically at 540/1180MHz.
Using these high clocks the HIS X800 GTO once again crushes easily their score and beats it by another 1100 points against the 500/1000MHz settings on 3DMark03. This card just seems to be unstoppable and might just have even more potential.
What else is there to know? I think the result says it all. Again we see an increase in performance on 3DMark05 and adding again around 600 points to the score. Well it ever stop? Well somehow I think this HIS X800 GTO can reach speeds levels as high as the Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition which actually runs at around 580/1180MHz. So we are only 30MHz away from this. I think we might load up PowerStrip or RivaTuner and see the highest possible clock speeds...
I just got one word; impressive! Yeps, that is what the Aquamark score of over 70k is. Who would have guessed that a 12-pipe GTO card would be able to pump out such a score. And just to be clear this is with the standard cooling solution provided by HIS, the IceQ II cooling system. This VPU is a real world overclocker and it can negotiate maximum over clock without artifacts and or hick-ups. The card ran flawless under these conditions and put out some really good scores for a mid-level mainstream VPU. I am still amazed at how fast this card is. It screams!
