LeadTek WinFast A400 Ultra/GT TDH Review
Written by Mavke

Another LeadTek WinFast A400 Ultra TDH/Leadtek WinFast A400 GT TDH review has been published on Beyond3D. The last generation of GPUs from nVidia and ATI saw a change in the way many AIB partners did business in the video card sector - Many major players switched from supplying boards from only a single vendor to utilising GPUs from both of the major players.

As we have seen time and again recently, the GeForce 6800 series offers fantastic performance across the board, and the Leadtek offerings we have examined here are no different in that respect - Either the GT or Ultra-based variant we looked at today is more than capable of handling basically any game title you may wish to throw at it, and at high resolution coupled with Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering to boot.

As far as these two boards go, obviously it should be taken into account that they are aimed at different price points. The Leadtek A400 Ultra undoubtedly offers greater performance than its GT-based counterpart at stock speeds, CPU limitations aside. However, when you begin to take into account the cheaper cost of the A400 GT coupled with its fantastic overclocking potential (at least based upon the board supplied to us for testing), you have a much closer contest, with the A400 GT arguably becoming the better choice.

For most, the decision of whether to plump for a Leadtek GeForce 6800 board over that of another AIB partner will depend largely on how you feel about their bundle and cooling solution. The bundle is certainly an impressive one, and for the Ultra board it is great to see the inclusion of dual DVI ports, but some may be put off by the bulky cooler on the normally single-slot GT card. However, space in your system permitting, the hefty cooling solution is still an impressively quiet one, and coupled with the overclocking potential of the A400 GT, it is a definite contender for anyone looking to buy a video card in this price range.
