Up Close & Personal Let's go a bit more in detail on the Hiper Type-R HPU-4B580 power supply and unraffle some of the key features and properties. Hiper states in the specifications of the product that the supply is made of 1mm Japanese steel which means it's crafted from very thin steel which is almost aluminum like to the touch.
The rear of the Type-R power supply exposes the air exhaust which features an 80mm fan protected by a steel grill displaying the Hiper brand. The 80mm fan used on the unit is made by Power Cooler and is rated at 2500RPM and pushes 24.47CFM of air at 28.8dB. It is a transparent fan with silver grey fan blades and equipped with 4 blue LED's (one in each corner of the fan).
The back of the Hiper PSU also shows the power on/off switch. The Type-R lacks an exterior voltage switch which means there is a HPU-4B580 power supply version for use in US (rated at 115VAC) and a version of use in Europe (rated at 195-240VAC). On top of that there isn't any sort of fan control, but the fans are practically inaudible during operation. The rear fan however is designed to keep running after the PC has shut down so that the PSU will not overheat shortly after use.
Let's move towards the bottom of the Hiper PSU. Hiper opted for a dual fan design and has used a 120 mm fan on the bottom of extra air intake. The 120 mm fan on the underside is rated at 1500RPM pushes 59.12CFM at 29.58dB. This fan also features the same 4 blue LED structure as we already seen before. On top of that, from this shot you actually get a clear view on the beautiful finish of the high grade Japanese steel.
Oh yes, we might almost have forgotten, this Type-R PSU is modular... Which means that certain wires can be removed if they are not needed. The lack of excess wiring means that your case will be less cluttered, easier to work in, have better airflow and will look neater. Hiper has done a great job with this modular design. The main power cable, although not removable, comes straight out of the PSU and is well protected by the round steel shielding ring.
Hiper has designed their own unique modular interface that does remind me of the old days we had coaxial networks. The OmniGrid™ System, the naming that Hiper assigned to the 6-connectors, is unique and easy to use. The connections are round with tick pin-outs and screw-down collar to hold the wiring in place. This connection appears to be a good deal, it's stronger and more secure than that of most other modular power supplies.
