The Hiper Type-R Power Supply Out of the box we are looking at a serious power supply. The amperage ratings on the voltage rails are outstanding in that their will be plenty of torque behind the power output. Utilizing Hiper's Type-R power supply you are getting continuous wattage output 100% of the time with peaks up to 630W peak power.
Supporting Intel Pentium 4 and AMD Athlon platforms, meeting ATX up to v2.2 and BTX specifications. Hiper offers short circuit protection, over voltage protection and over current cutoff protection ensures your system will be protected from most disasters. The MTBF rate is huge with over 100,000 hours at full load.
Unpacking the Hiper power supply, we discover a blue steel finish and a big ventilator at the top. What a nice power supply. The weight is average for a typical PSU of this rating. Right away we can see innovative looks, performance and style.
The PSU chassis offers a unique ventilation system using an almost honey comb pattern of holes for fast heat dissipation. The anodized blue color is sweet looking and feels rugged and thick to the touch. Handling this PSU you can feel the heavy duty construction and density of the components inside.
The power connectors are some of the most state of the art and most effective connectors I have ever seen on a PSU like this. The individual cables are positive locking and offer superior looks and functionality over any PSU on the market. This power supply is amazing to say the least, let's check out some other features and we will give you details on the connectors in a moment. AC Input | 100-120V/200-240V 8/5A 60/50Hz | Peak Load | DC Input | +3.3V | +5V | +12V1 | +12V2 | -12V | +5VSB | MAX Output Current | 32A | 36A | 20A | 18A | 0.8A | 2.5A | 630W | MAX Combined Wattage | 280W | 360W | 9.6W | 12.5W | 560W | 22.1W |
Notice on the power specifications that there are two separate +12V lines. This is a nice feature that helps ensure you get clean power to your motherboard without worrying about other devices and peripherals taking any power.
The Type-R PSU comes equipped with not one but 2 fans, an 80mm rear exhaust fan and a 120mm bottom intake fan. Though neither of the fans can be manually controlled the size of this intake fan means that it does not have to spin very fast, in fact, Hiper reports the PSU noise level at just 20dB. This, along with the grilled frame, gives this PSU fantastic cooling. While these fans are spinning, they give of a lovely blue glow that just adds that bit of flair that many other power supplies simply don't have.
The sticker with the specifications on it is located at the top of the power supply rather that the side. Both sides of the Type-R PSU are perforated steel, this not only makes the unit look better inside the case but allows for the ventilation on the side. Because this steel is so thinly crafted and has vents cut into about 80% of its surface it means it also acts as a large heatsink which aids in keeping it cool.
