Software Installation & Configuration

We are going to install the latest ATI CATALYST Software Suite, proceeded by the iTurbo software and start running some test's and get down to the bottom of things. First off that Cat drivers in which we will leave totally default for our testing. The monitor we are going to use is a 19" Dell P991 Trinitron. It's an older model but it still gets the job done with excellent refresh rates at higher resolutions.

HIS iTurbo v1.3.2

HIS iTurbo provides you quick and easy access to overclocking, hardware
health monitoring and fan control functions. Simply press the iTurbo button to reach the maximum speed with stable performance automatically. This allows setting overclocking parameters predefined by HIS with one mouse click. Note, however that the fan speed and overclocking settings tracking mode ensures that iTurbo's settings will not be changed by other third party overclocking tools.

HIS iTurbo v1.3.2

Significant improvements in 3D performance can be gained buy a simple mouse click. Using the HIS iTurbo software will allow you to effectively over-clock your card with out the worry of voiding the warranty. The iTurbo software is designed specifically to adjust your card to premium performance while maintaining the factory warranty. For those who are warranty conscious, we recommend using this software. The results are well worth it, let's take a look at the "On" and "Off" performance difference in using iTurbo.

iTurbo OFF

The iTurbo program comes with a very user friendly and easy to use interface. This is what I call a view and click application. Why? Well you just launch and click to activate/deactivate the turbo boost. This is a true single-click, instant over-clocking application. With one click, you will get factory endorsed over-clocking that will not void the warranty. As for the performance, we will grab some synthetic benchmarks using both iTurbo and non iTurbo over clocking. Let's take a look at the difference in performance between the two.

These results are excellent as they are with the iTurbo turned off. The cards performance is above average for the mainstream performance segment under stock clock timings. I am quite suprised to see such performance right out of the box. This means you are getting above average performance without even over-clocking the card. Speaking of which, let's over clock the card with iTurbo and see what we get.

iTurbo ON

Now let's make use of the turbo function and activate the iTurbo mode. The iTurbo program will over clock the HIS X800GT within factory specifications. Using the iTurbo feature we see a significant increase in performance. All three synthetic test's show excellent response to the iTurbo features. Let's check out the performance at these clocks.

The HIS X800 GT IceQ II Turbo shows significant signs of performance gains using the iTurbo feature. These scores show that the HIS X800 GT IceQ II Turbo has more than enough power to trounce the 6600 GT and we will compare the two in our next phase of testing, which will include performance comparisons between the two. In the mean time I am really impressed with these scores coming off a completely default test system. We ran these benches using a default 200 MHz FSB using default ram timings and voltage settings.
