HIS X800 GT IceQ II Turbo

What about a side view of the heatsink and cooler? The nice thing about these IceQ II solutions, you can view right through the cooler and see how it is constructed. But most of us are always interested of what lies beneath?

We get a clear view from the side and see that the main component in this cooling solution is the big copper heatsink. The copper heatsink base consists of 3.5mm fins which will make sure the GPU can get rid of the heat efficiently. The air that is drawn from one end will go through this fin surface and will take up the heat and move it towards the outlet. The large fan and optimized fanblades offer a minimum noise level at a high air flow.

That's all on the cooling. Of course that isn't all about the HIS X800 GT. The HIS X800 GT IceQ II Turbo comes with a VGA and DVI output, and as well a TV-out. HIS has not opted for a dual DVI on this card, which is kindy logic as this card is meant for the big public and not all have these monitors with a DVI input. Of course in time DVI will take over and so the X800 GT IceQ II Turbo has both analog and digital outlet available.

As we have gone over the front of the card, it is now time to also look a the back. On the back of the card we get a clearer view on the PCB (Printed Circuit Board) used for the X800GT. The PCB looks very familiar... Yes it about the same red PCB that is also used on the Radeon X800/X850 series of video cards.

A full view of the back side of the HIS X800GT show us that the backplate of the cooling solution covers about 1/3 of the PCB, which is actually where the memory chips are located. As the memory chips are clocked at around 1GHz, proper cooling is certainly an added value. Let's just face it with the huge cooling that has been put on the HIS X800GT we haven't seen much of the actual card behind the IceQ II cooling system.

A close up of the backside. This is part of the IceQ II cooling system, the metal bracket and two small Philips head machine screws help keep constant pressure on the VPU. This is known as a retention process or simply put a retention mechanism. Now that we gave you the skinny on the VPU and IceQ II, lets peel that cooler off and see what sits under the hood, shall we?
