The Product

The Wicked Lasers Extreme Series Phoenix 80 mW high end laser pen is packaged inside a specially made box containing the laser pen and 2 x AAA batteries, stuffed inside the silver and black molded neoprene shock absorbing case. Upon removing the Phoenix, we find its constructed of an all aluminum barrel, which is powder coated with an ebony finish and adorned with gold color hardware. The gold color hardware includes the pocket clip, rear battery compartment end-cap and the front aperture. The aperture end is clearly marked and identified with a FDA approved laser compliance label.

Taking a closer look the Wicked Lasers Extreme Series laser pen is identified and rated at a whopping 80 mW of output with a wavelength of 532 nm which is pointed out on the label. You will get two batteries included with the pen, so you can use it right out of the box.

The handsome pen is very classy looking and sports a glossy finish. The power is excellent for star pointing and other long range tasks. However the output rating will not make it a suitable for use in the office at your weekly business meeting or small presentation groups. You also see plenty of lasers at dance clubs and late night bars. This laser will outclass just about anything for its sheer size and output performance.

While you can discharge the laser in close quarters, we don't recommend it, because when the beam hits walls in close proximity, the beam diffusion and scatter, can cause eye damage. We highly recommend using laser safety goggles for this type of power output. Outside use shows a phenomenal beam display as the atmospheric conditions amplify the laser glow tremendously.

I am going to prep the laser for operations by removing the barrel end-cap that covers the battery compartment. Next I will remove the blue and black protective aperature cover. The upper picture shows the relative size as compaired to the AAA batteries required to power the pen. I decided since we had brand new alkaline batteries lying around, we would test with those to make sure we have the latest stock and newest lot of power cells.

Inserting the batteries is an easy task, unscrewing the gold color barrel end-cap reveals the battery compartment that holds 2 x AAA alkaline batteries. It's a common event to put the positive pole of the battery into a device first, however with this laser you will install the negative pole in the barrel first. The positive pole must be facing the barrel end-cap, then you can proceed and replace the end-cap and screw it tightly into place. Now the laser is ready for action!
