Test Bed

The MVKTECH test bed is going to consist of the following hardware sponsored by Xoxide/Thermaltake, Gainward, Swiftech, Mushkin and Corsair. Our rig looks like this:

Rig Specifications:

  • AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Winchester
  • DFI LANParty nF4 SLI-DR
  • 2 x Gainward 6600 GT GS GLH
  • 1 x 120GB Maxtor SATA HDD
  • 1 x LG 16X DVDRW Multi-format
  • 1024MB Corsair XPERT
  • 1024MB Mushkin DDR400 Redline (ran separately)
  • Thermaltake 480 watt TWV
  • Thermaltake Armor case (Courtesy of Xoxide)
  • And about 4 hours of elbow grease

The system fully equipped with all the hardware and the Swiftech H20-120T™ Thermoelectric Liquid Cooling kit. Can you spot the individual components of the Swiftech kit?

Focusing on the MCW5002-64™ waterblock, you get a clear view on the installation and water flow. We also get a good view of the tube circuits on our configuration showing the route our water will travel. On the rear of the system we can see the RadBox radiator assembly.

A close up on both the Swiftech MCW5002-64™ and MCP655 with the plastic tubes. The ClearFlex 60 will take care of interconnecting each component of the Swiftech H20-120T™ watercooling kit. Through these tubes the distilled water mixed with Swiftech's coolant will flow to keep the system cool.

The Swiftech H20-120T™ watercooling solution fits nicely on our DFI LANParty nF4 SLI-DR mainboard and the color scheme that is provided gives it that little extra. A black background with yellow, red, blue and green colors... We will check the eye candy out later, anyway one would think because our CPU is at near freezing temperatures the Clearflex 60 tubing would be cold to the touch right? Nope! You have to remember the water cooling is cooling off the hot side of the TEC module, so the water and tubing is warm to the touch.

This is not a conventional water cooling kit, so don't be confused that the water cooling properties was designed for cooling the CPU. On the contrary, the water cooling stabalizes the TEC module temperatures and allows the TEC module to discharge the the peltier process on both hot and cold sides. The waterblock is mounted on top of the TEC module's hot side, and the cold side of the TEC module is facing the CPU with a cold plate between the CPU and TEC module, effectively cooling the CPU.
