The MCW5002-64T™ Thermoelectric Cooler The MCW5002-64T™ is a fully assembled liquid-cooled thermoelectric (Peltier) solution, specifically designed for AMD® "K8" class (socket 754 and 939) processors. This unit is intended for advanced users in extreme processor cooling applications, such as extreme overclocking. The product requires appropriate insulation measures to prevent the formation of condensation in sensitive areas of the motherboard.
The main feature of the MCW5002-64T™ waterblock is its ability to cool a CPU to below ambient temperatures, which is not possible with conventional air or watercooling. This can be a big advantage when overclocking a CPU and trying to extract the maximum performance possible.
On the above images you get a good view on the Swiftech MCW5002-64™ waterblock. This still features the blue color that Swiftech is using throughout it's products. Already from this angle we can see that this waterblock is bigger then what you will usually find.
Let's turn the MCW5002-64™ a bit around to get a better view. The MCW5002-64™ consists out of different components. At the top we have the actual waterblock, with the 2 1/2" holes to attach the plastic tubes. In the middle we find the thermoelectric cooler (TEC), which operates on the Peltier effect. And to finish it off we have the copper based cold plate.
The solid copper cold plate is a full 1/2" thick and like other Swiftech parts is CNC machined. It serves as a transition piece to connect the relatively small surface area of the CPU die to the larger cold side surface area of the TEC. The cold plate acts as a heat spreader and also helps moderate temperature changes by increasing thermal capacitance.
Included with the TEC module & assembly, you will get neoprene CPU backing gaskets, these are used on the area on the back side of the mother-board, directly behind the CPU. Our system does not utilize this extra gasket, but your configuration might. Also you will get thermal compound, worm clamps, 0.500 (1/2") nylon threaded spigots and last but not least - the TEC wiring splicer/coupler, this will allow you to patch into the Meanwell PSU, if you need extra wire to make the connection, like in our case.
Essentially we can call this process a solid state refrigerator or in our case a 226 Watt, 25 Amp, 12 Volt thermoelectric module, designed around Swiftech's patented components that make up the MCW5002-64T™ liquid-cooled thermoelectric assembly.
Compatibility: AMD® Athlon® 64 (socket 754, 939, 940) processors The MCW5002-AT is shipped with ½” barb to 3/8” NPT nylon fittings. These fittings should be installed using Teflon tape or plumbers “goop”.
IMPORTANT WARNING: Solder joints of the wires to the thermoelectric module are extremely fragile. Bending the wires at their root will break the solder joint, with no possible repair. Swiftech will not honor the warranty for broken wires.
