The belly of the keyboard shows a battery compartment on the back. It has no use, in fact, it has no metal leads to extract current from the battery. My only guess is that Sunbeam is using this same design for a wireless keyboard. Another fact to mention - the keyboard is actually designed to allow drainage from the accidental spill of a soft drink or morning coffee. If you spill a drink into the keys, the design will allow the damaging liquid to pass through the keyboard components and out of the bottom of the keyboard.

Spill resistant you ask? Yip, that’s right, spill resistance in an illumination keyboard. On the other side of things, this keyboard does not have flip up adjusters that will raise the keyboard angle of attack. This means it is in a fixed state and is not height adjustable - just as well I find those never hold up under the stresses of gaming anyway. Apart from that, what I thought was odd, was the navigation wheel is visible from the bottom and then I realized this is part of the spill resistant design.

On the back of the board there are five outlets that are part of the body construction, that are run-offs for spills. The key-pad is made in such a fashion that spills are kept away from the electronics. This does not mean it will survive all scenarios, but for the most part it is spill proof. No, it's not water proof, just spill proof.
Illumination and Operation
Sunbeam Pro-Series Illuminated Keyboards are nice and bright. It looks great and offers a really nice touch for the relative budget pricing in the illuminated keyboard arena. Let's clarify what illuminated means, the underlining transparent keys are back-lit by LED' light sources and offers the glowing effect we see below. Some keyboards have LED's in the keys and under the key pad, this keyboard uses a non lit key using a illuminated backgound.

For the price this is a pretty sweet keyboard, the key's are very brightly lit and offer a cool glow blue blow that is very visible when used in doors. At night time the keyboard glows really nice and has a on and off key thats part of the layout. You can run the lights on and off at your command.

A close up of the keys, shows the transparency and black lettering that make up the key text. As we can see the Navigation wheel is also glowing in blue with the dashboard showing caps lock, num lock in blue LEDs. The keyboard would suite low light area's such as a bartenders keyboard or just a dark room, pulling off the latest Battlefield 2 frag fests. Either way the keyboard works great for work, gaming, browsing on the internet in the evenings or any environment for that matter.

Illuminated keyboards such as this one, is really nice for those who like to game at night with there lights off, I played a few rounds of BF2 and AAO and had a blast and the illumination helps big time as I am not the most proficient typist, so making sure I have the right keys for the job is made is with this keyboard, I can look down and instantly find that proper key when needed.
