So, does the Ulti-mat Skates make that big of a difference? After applying the Skates to the IntelliMouse below I wanted to spend a few days gathering information as to the performance increase if any at all and this is what I found out...

Believe it or not, right off the bat the Ulti-mat Skates reduced friction and effort significantly. Even less friction than the world famous Diamondback Plasma super elite gaming mouse. This comes much to my surprise, since the Teflon Zero Acoustic skates on the Diamondback are highly acclaimed.

So guess what? I taped the Diamondback Plasma with the Ulti-mat Skates, and now I have one of the best setup's I have ever felt in my entire life. The mouse moves like glass and is truly a feeling that I can learn to get along with. You have to see and feel it to believe it!

Talk about re-learning the mouse, now I have to get used to the extremely easy effort to glide this mouse. Wow! Pretty awesome stuff, I decided to use this combo for a few days and went back to the eXactMat and standard Diamondback and really felt how rough and tacky the differences are. I actually prefer the Teflon surface having tried it. Up until now I didn't realize it could get any better. But this combination is bad ass!

While this setup offers a new feel and effortless glide to end user's, it boils down to what your used too. Sure this feels great but will it make my precision any better? Instantly, no! But in the long term yes, you will have to spend time getting used to the new feel of the Ulti-mat. Make no mistake, having the best tools on the planet means knowing how to use them, this includes getting know and feel input devices and mouse surfaces.

This close up does no justice for the surface look and feel. I tried to capture the particles that make up the Teflon coating and illustrate the sparkling effects that the Ulti-mat gives off. It some small way it reminds me of that indigo black pearl-essence effect.

Final Thoughts

I love this surface, at first I was like whoa, this thing is slippery! But after a few days of using it, I wouldn't trade it for the world. The smooth feel is amazing when used with the PTFE Skates. The action of the Ulti-mat is unique and very easy and requires less effort to manipulate an input device over a conventional surface. This is truly a product that delivers what it says. The Ulti-mat rocks! No one should be without one.

If you are a serious gamer and want to learn the smoothest pad on the market then try a Ulti-mat with the Teflon Skates. The combination is addicting! Some of you are skeptical and think we say anything for PR, but seriously folks, most of the hardware we review is higher end and it is expected to be worth our time and effort to pull off these reviews, but when something is good, it is good and most of the stuff we review is damn good! So let's keep things in perspective and realize that this is truly one of the better mouse surface innovations in a long time.

Will the Ulti-mat be for everyone? This is up to the eye of the beholder, surely not everyone is going to agree or like certain surfaces. I can say this product kicks ass all day long, till we are blue in the face and the only way you are going to be able to feel the difference is try one. I recommend this surface because there is a very significant difference using this pad. I also further like the fact the Skate's make this one of the most friction free surfaces to date and for that fact this is an innovation that deserves the Editors Choice award for a real life difference one can see and feel with the Ulti-mat.

The Ulti-mat kicks ass with one of the smoothest surfaces going. If you like near friction free drag and effortless skating, then you owe it to your mouse to purchase the Ulti-mat. Stop the mouse abuse and urge to slam your mouse, find some peace and try this product, it will improve your game play without a doubt!

The Teflon surface is suppose to be scratch resistant, however the case may be we did notice some fine hair line abrasions, so while it is said the surface is scratch resistant, this may not be the case if deliberately scratched. DuPont makes this claim within there application of the product, so while that maybe the case, I think it's safe to say this Ulti-mat product resists cratches.

On an ending note, you must have at least a 800dpi optical sensor in order to effectively use this surface.

Are you wondering where to get the Ulti-mat Mousepad? Then look no further. You can pick up the Ulti-Mat or choose from many other Mouse Pads at Xoxide.com.
