Razer Diamondback Plasma Limited Edition

Razer sent us an eXactMat to play with and I must say this is a sweet combination. I almost like this surface better than the previous one I was using. This is a full aluminum framed dual surface competition pad and it works great! I like the fact it is bigger and does not slide or move under eXtreme use and pressure being placed on Mat. One thing that can kill your frag rate, is to have a walking mouse surface that crawls all over the place while in a battle and thats annoying. So I can say the eXtreme Mat, is another kick ass surface that I highly recommend.

Fine tuning the optical tracking and chassis glide can also be achieved with the eXactMat by simply flipping it over. Each side has its own texture, one side being finer than the other. What this does is give the user two surfaces to choose from. I happen to like the rougher side, the mouse seems to respond better for my taste.

These surfaces are called the "Speed Side" and the "Control Side". The Control side is textured somewhat rough. Although, compared to many other hard pads on the market, it's quite mild. The Speed side is textured very smooth. It's just about on par with the rest of the smoother pad surfaces on the market now. As the opposite to the Control side, Razer claims the "Speed Side" to be for high sensitivity users.

The Razer eXactMat is bundle with a gel-filled wrist rest called eXact Rest which is covered in a tough, comfortable black fabric with Razer's signature green Tri-Serpent logo. The bottom of the eXact Rest is a non-skid embossed surface to reduce skid and slipping.

Here we can see the Diamondback Plasma Limited Edition resting on the eXactMat, posed for action. Let's go ahead and plug this badness into our UBS power and power this unit up. I just plugged it in and the Diamondback Plasma Limited Edition fired up right away with Windows detecting the mouse and automatically setting up the drivers. Now this is ok for starters, but to take full advantage of the mouse, you will want to install the included drivers and software, that give you the ultimate control over the tracking and assigning buttons to any one of the seven that are available.

The eXact Rest is unique in that it's attached to a rubber base and separate from the eXactMat. If you choose to use the eXact Rest, simply place the Razer eXactMat on top of it.

Another view on the Razer eXactMat with the related eXact Rest next to it. You can clearly see that both fit very well together, however for those not so keen on the wrist pad can always choose not to use it.

Back to the mouse, hehe! What's new with Diamondback Plasma Limited Edition is the fact the optical eye does not emit visible infrared light from the bottom of the mouse chassis, making the undercarriage appear as if its not working. This is not the case, the light frequency is not visible to the naked eye so you do not see the tracking beam on the traditional red optical mice and input devices. Gone is the bright red optical light used on the regular Diamondback series input devices. Lifting the mouse off a surface does not cause reflective feedback, no more bright red beam reflection what so ever.
