Hi-TechReviews send word of their ATI Radeon X600 Review. The Radeon X600 is not a complete revision of past cores but instead the Radeon X600 has the feature set and hardware support as the very popular Radeon 9600XT.
ATI Radeon X600 Review
Both the X600 and 9600XT use the same four pixel pipeline architecture and include two programmable vertex shader pipelines. The clock speeds are similar at 500MHz but the memory speed of 740MHz for the X600
as opposed to 600MHz for the 9600XT makes them slightly different in that area. But since we are dealing with the X600 PRO we should discuss the actual clock frequencies on this particular card. The X600 PRO is slower on both the front and back-end seeing how it only clocks in at 400MHz for the core and 600MHz (300DDR) for the memory.
ATI needed a good starting point for their mid-priced PCI-E video cards and I don't think they can hardly go wrong when they base their first such card on the very popular 9600XT. Now if you think you are going to buy this card and install it and crank the detail on Doom 3 up to max or do the same when Half-Life 2 hits the shelves you're going to be one sorry puppy.
As I mentioned earlier this card is capable of playing a large number of the current video games on the market today but there is something you have to remember when you use it. Just like playing poker and drinking shots, if you don't know your limit your going to wake up in the morning and hate yourself for the mistake you made. But if your fully conscious of what this cards limits are you can expect it to produce some good times for you.
Just like every other ATI video card depending on the company you buy it from the goodies you get with it will vary a lot, mine came in a padded envelope without even so much as a manual or a driver disk. Some will offer slightly better cooling than others, but at the speeds this card runs at - heat is not going to be much of an issue. |
