nVidia 65 Series driver gets WHQL certified |

We had a chance to talk to an important nVidia chap who happens to play a very big role in its software department and we learned quite a few things about its coming 65 series driver. We were told that the nVidia 65 series of drivers will end up with WHQL stamp for all of its products. He implied that nVidia driver has to get stamp for all chips from the oldest TNT–TNT2, to the most recent Geforce 6800 Ultra.

nVidia was partially slowed down by the delay of Microsoft DX 9.1c that was suppose to be launched earlier than late summer 2004. One more delay occurred with new WHQL test kit from Microsoft, so nVidia had to postpone its driver plans.
As you may know there is no Shader 3.0 support without DirectX 9.0c so nVidia had to wait for these APIs to arrive before it could focus on all qualification tests required to pass WHQL tests.
One thing that is rapidly slowing new WHQL driver certification is the fact that if just one of nVidia products fails any of the tests, it had to find the answer, do some modifications in order to make it work, and so pass the WHQL test.
The currently available 61 series driver is indeed WHQLd but only for GeForce 6800 and 6600, not for older products. That's why nVidia didn't want to release it on its web site.
The 65 series of drivers will have support for SLI cards as well. You can imagine how hard it will be to certify dual SLI cards but nVidia seems to have some clue as to how it's done.
