Test Bed & Configuration:

Here at MVKTech, we are going to use two platforms to test our PowerColor X800XL. So you want to see these bad boys? You got it! Both are state of the art next generation PCI-Express motherboards using some of the best products on the market. With DFI being one of the world’s fastest motherboards we are going with this brand for our test season this year and we will be using these boards exclusively. Check these platforms out!

Test Rig No. 1:

LANPARTY 925X-T2

  • DFI LANParty 925X-T2 Motherboard
  • Intel P4 550 3.4GHz LGA775 CPU
  • 1024MB Mushkin Hi-Performance 3-2-2-8 DD2
  • 120GB Maxtor Diamond Max 9 8MB Cache SATA HDD
  • 500watt UV Green X-Connect PSU
  • ATI Catalyst 6.14.10.6490
  • PowerColor X800XL
  • PowerColor Theater 550 Pro
  • Pioneer 16X Dual Layer DVDRW
  • Swiftech H20-120Rev.3 Watercooling kit
  • Cooler Master Stacker Case

The single slot design stuffs nicely in our Intel test bed. The card is also smaller in length as mentioned previously and runs cooler, all adding a very nice appeal to the cheaper mid-level pricing index. Taking a closer look at the VPU, you notice this is plenty of room around the card giving good over all clearance from the mother-board population and components.

The Benchmarks are simple, we used FRAPS 2.5.4 for real life in game benches and used the supplied ATI Catalyst video drivers and control panel version 6.14.10.6490. The Video Mode was set at 1280x1024 16M+ TrueColor (32-bit) and a refresh rate of 90Hz on a P991 19" Trinitron Flat Screen CRT Monitor. Sure we could of used the latest and greatest drivers, but we wanted to see this product perform with out of the box software giving the potential end users the skinny on the supplied drivers.

Now we are going to test this product on our DFI LanParty 925X-T2 and the DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR mother-boards. First up is, Test Rig No.1, the Intel 925X based DFI LANParty 925X-T2 system gets benchmarked using several games and synthetics. Flip the page to read on...
