Razer Diamondback & fUnc sUrface 1030:

First off - WOW! After using a regular mouse pad & IntelliMouse 3.0 USB for over a year, this combination is unreal! The sUrface 1030 allows the Teflon feet of the Diamonback to glide along it's surface with smoothness and ease, there are no dead zones or tracking lag. To move the Diamondback across this sUrface is really effortless and requires one to re-train there mouse habits, this combo actually teaches you how to properly use a high precision mouse without the need for an airport runway to operate your mouse.

Here we have both the sUrface 1030 and the Diamondback poised for action. I have had the pleasure to use this mouse and surface combination for a couple of weeks now and I must say that after getting used to the new dynamics of a high precision mouse, I am being accused of cheating more often while ripping off some UT2004. I am getting first time head shots and I am able to manipulate intense up close battles with more precision and accuracy. Dodging missiles and bullets have never been easier!

Thanks to the cable clip thats comes with the fUnc sUrface 1030, your cable will not pull or snag on something that will cause high blood pressure when trying to put your enemy on the receiving end of a nice 100giga-watt lightning gun to the face. This cable clip helps keep those un-wanted tangles and snags out of your life.

Since I am right handed I configured the cable clip on the upper left hand side. I gave the cable enough slack to make sure I can use the entire surface without any problems. Now that I got the cable length right I set the Diamondback next the sUrface logo and blasted the photo to the upper right.

As we mentioned the left and right buttons are huge and have a tactile click no matter where you click the buttons. You will get same click response and stroke performance from any angle on the buttons, this aid’s in over all accuracy by eliminating play.

The belly of the Diamondback reveals three Teflon feet that are arranged in a delta formation. Name a mouse that uses Teflon feet from the factory and get back to me, hehe. OK there are a couple but these babies are thick and raised a little higher than most on the market, whats this mean to you? Dirt and debre will not load up around the feet causing drag as fast as other brands, you can spend more time using the mouse then pulling maintenance.

These shots where taking with the lights off and our camera flash on lowest possible settings and we tried to get some of the glowing effect from the LED's and what the mouse looks like under low light conditions and then under total darkness. I must say that I love the way the mouse and sUrface 1030 look on our desktop. At night the first thing you notice is that mouse, everyone always comments on the mouse with how good it looks, and I agree.

Tilting the mouse on its side you can see the optical driver is always on, no matter if you lift the mouse or tilt it to one side the Diamondback will always be 100% active, the Diamondback will not power down to conserve energy. This is because the high performance karna engine requires constant power to maintain leading edge performance.

Final Thoughts:

The speed and accuracy this combination gives its users, is almost second to none, if someone can find a better combination then more power to ya! Having used both Diamondback and fUnc sUrface 1030 for some time now, this setup is going to be my permanent configuration. The results are well worth taking the time to get used to the Diamondback's high precision and once you do, look out! Head shots are easier, aiming is easier, I find myself on the giving end of a can of whoop ass and because my skills increased using these products, I recommend this combination to anyone looking to pick up some bragging rights. I have used this mouse on America's Army, Unreal Tournament 2004 in online gaming action for the last couple weekends and I have definitely increased my skills by accurately placing the first shot right on target. Windows navigating is much more precise and accurate allowing you to move your mouse a fraction of the required travel, thus allowing less hand fatigue and carpel tunnel effects.

In a windows application environment, such as my html editor to do this review, the Diamonback allows me to work faster because I can target my icons and folder with much greater accuracy. I make less mistakes and do not open up the wrong file as much as I used to, as I zip around my desktop multitasking like crazy and with that kind of speed, the Diamond back makes your work become more proficient by not having to correct as many click mistakes.

I did have to get used to the mouse, the first few days where kind of a reluctant enthusiasm that transpired into how could I have lived with out this mouse and gaming surface. Once I started re-learning the speed and accuracy of the Diamondback, I really started enjoying it. If you are willing to take a few days to re-learn the precision optical characteristics, then you to will start wondering why you didn’t think of this change earlier. Our computer experience is like a new one giving a new feel to how the PC responds to my input.

There might be a better combination out there, but in my experience using several pads recently and using the Diamondback, this one takes the cake.
