Vitual Zone gotten their hands on a XFX GeForce 6800 GT AGP graphics card. We have said it before and we will say it again, the video card sector is one of the most competitive and ever changing in all of the computer industry. We've seen ATI and NVIDIA battle for market dominance over the past three years, presenting a level of competition that this market has never seen before. Both companies have millions to spend on research and development, and their latest offerings, the NV40 and R420 series released earlier this year have proven ATI and NVIDIA's desire to have their name on the fastest graphics card currently available.
XFX GeForce 6800 GT Review
After one reviews the benchmark scores and overclockability that we saw today with the XFX GeForce 6800 GT, it becomes very clear as to what video card is best at the $400 price point. On one hand we have the ATI Radeon X800 Pro, a 12 pixel pipeline card, and on the other we have the GeForce 6800 GT, a 16 pixel pipeline based card that manages to outperform the X800 Pro in most of the
tests we ran today.
The advantage the 6800 GT has over the X800 Pro is mainly due to the four extra pixel pipelines available with the NV40 based card, and we can see now that ATI should have made the X800 Pro a $299 card that would go against the GeForce 6800 Standard and made the Radeon X800 XT go against the GeForce 6800 GT. Of course, everything comes down to yields and from what we've heard, ATI has had problems yielding fully function 16 pixel pipeline cards in large quantities over the last few months.
Not only does the GeForce 6800 GT perform great in every game tested, the game also packs one of the best
gaming bundles around. Packaging four full version games including Doom 3, XFX did a great job of making the card appeal to the gamers that will be buying it. Overclockability is also an important feature with the enthusiasts that would be willing to spend $400 on a graphics card, and the GeForce 6800 GT doesn't lack in this sector, running a core speed of 66MHz and memory speed of 114MHz faster than stock.
With
that said, I most definitely reccommend the XFX GeForce 6800 GT to the gamer interested in getting great performance from today's most demanding games. XFX really brings in a perfect package with their 6800 GT graphics card, a great card to own at the $400 price point. |
