SunBeam Chameleon Color Changing QUAD LED Projector Kit

The Sunbeam Chameleon is a multi channel RGB laser projector light kit that is packaged with four LED laser projectors and a 5.25" bay controller. The controller allows user to dial in the right amount of color from each of the three channels. This is a fun new product that will allow you to change the light color of the LED projectors on the fly, giving new color effects to the interior of your case. Let's take a look...

Above you can see what the box of the Sunbeam Chameleon looks like. With a photo-illustrations of the device itself and on the back, some more details on the product, the specifications and features. From the box alone you might wonder why they called this Chameleon? Well it won't take that long before you get the answer.

You will get all the necessary hardware to mount this device in any 5.25" device bay area. The power cord is approximately 24" long out to standard Molex connector. Each LED projector has its own set of Velcro strips for easy installation. The 5.25" controller comes with mounting screws and a leaflet illustration example of how to properly disconnect the LED projector cables from PCB of the 5.25" controller.

The Sunbeam controller arrives in a brushed aluminum finish and utilizes three pan-pot control knobs that facilitate the RGB intensity of the LED projectors. The face-plate also has the power switch on the front panel for user convenience, as well as 3 dials that control the 4 LED projectors. With each dial you control the three main colors, namely Red, Blue and Green.

When powering up the Chameleon, the RGB indicator lights will power up telling you which color channel operates what color. These indicator lights are bright! On the right side picture shows the LED projectors. Each projector contains a swivel base allowing use to point the projector lens in any direction!

Here we see the Chameleon powered up with standard blue and red channels, powering the projectors. You can also see that these LEDs give enough light to bring a case to life.

Green is the standard channel color and to get the purple - ultra violet color you just mix red and blue together and then you get purple, pretty easy stuff and neat looking too!

Adding all three color channels to the mix gives you a white effect that makes the light appear almost florescent. Taking away the blue we added red and green to get this orange-yellow effect.

The Chameleon controller in action! Each of the RGB LED's on the control panel tell you what color you are changing, if you want to add more red then turn up the red LED control and so on. This is neat setup if you like having you rig glowing with any of the colors you have seen in the review.

Installation:
1. Turn off your computer first. 2. Mount the kit into a 5.25" drive bay in the front panel of your PC. 3. Use double side velco tapes to fix the laser beams on desired places. 4. Plug the male 4 pin Molex connector into power supply. 5. Finally, turn on the power and enjoy the magic of the chameleon. Choose one color you like most to highlight your case, or you can switch the three color knobs on the panel to get a color mixture.
Once inside our MVKTech test rig, I positioned the LED projectors to focus the light where I wanted and took these shots. What I like about this kit is the fact it really does add some cool lighting to our rig. While the photpgraphs don't show beam intensity and reflection's or capture the full entensity, it is bright enough to make the inside our our rig look a lot different based on the color we chose to use.

This photo does no justice for the green effect we got from using this color. Our rig uses green UV water coolant and green and blue fans, so the green just sets off this color big time especially with the UV lamps we have inside the case. At the end, it is up to you to choose what color you want.

WYSIWYG! Or for those who don't speak the computer language, What You See Is What You Get! So you are in control of the lights and what color they should shed on the hardware. You can adjust them brighter during the day or night depending on your mood.

Final Thoughts:
Over all the Chameleon is pretty cool, easy to install and easy to use. Once more is the fact, the lights are on swivel bases and allow you to direct the LED projector in a universal direction. We aimed our lights at the desired locations and took the shot you see above. It does add a nice touch to the theme we are using, we like the bright white effect the most, it gives our rig depth perception and makes the hardware stand out.
One thing that bothered me was the fact that the red, green and blue LED's on the 5.25" bay controller is rather bright for our taste. The three bay lights shine light clear across the room and light the walls of our office. I didn't give it a negative because it's not really annoying, just something we want to point out.
The bottom line is, we will be using the Chameleon on our rig in the future so you haven't seen the last of the Chameleon around here.

Pros:
- Innovative
- Bright Red, Green and Blue LEDs
- Enhances rig colors and themes
- Easy to install and operate
- Looks awesome in low lit environments
- LED Laser projectors mount anywhere
