Tweak News has put a new review online which is about the ATI Radeon X300 PCI Express. For ATI's next generation of PCI Express chipset, you have these options. For performance gaming you have the various versions of the X800 chipset, for mainstream videocards you have the various versions of the X600 and the newer X700 based VPU processors and for the budget and value market you have the X300 and the X300SE.
ATI Radeon X300 Reference PCI Express Videocard
No for this review, I won't be giving it a rating or the pros and cons seeing no one will technically be able to get this exact card. What I will be stating is that if you are moving to the new Intel LGA775 specification or the new Athlon64 PCI Express motherboard and you just need a basic 2D videocard, the X300 based alternatives on the market will make you more than happy. There is not need to spend $150-200 on a card you will never use for three dimensional gaming. It is just a waste and you might as well keep the money in your pocket or use it to purchase more system memory.
If you are even considering gaming, do yourself a favor and upgrade to an X600 if you want some decent playable framerates on any of the more recent or newly released games on the market. If you are into much older games, you might get buy but you still will have to lower the quality setting to have things playable. |
