AOpen 6800NU fan speed... - 2005/01/29 09:50
Hi,
I recently replaced the original BIOS of my AOpen Aeolus 6800-DV128 with a different 6800NU BIOS... http://whitebunny.demon.nl/hardware/chipset_nvidia.html The original BIOS had incorrectly set clock rates and often caused total freezes of my system when running games and other 3D apps.
Using the new BIOS I don't get any more freezes. However I realized that the cooling fan of my card was running slower than with the original BIOS (it always slows down when I start Windows or X). With the original AOpen BIOS it used to speed up again when I ran 3D apps or games. This does not happen anymore...
Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem? Is there a 6800NU BIOS which correctly sets the fan speed? I don't even mind if the fan is running at full speed all the time, as long as it keeps the card from overheating.
I tried to use a modified version of my original BIOS with (what I think of as) correctly set clock rates (325MHz core/350MHz memory for both 2D and 3D). However this BIOS causes artifacts and crashes in Windows, and the temperature readings are higher than usual (which is strange because the 2D settings are identical to the original BIOS...). Probably my original BIOS wasn't read out correctly? Can that happen?
