Re:ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 512MB and graphics card overheating? - 2009/02/24 08:27 choiby wrote:
I tried using a manual fan override setting to keep it at 100% but it wasn't enough to stop the shutdown. Is there a way to specify the temperature threshold? Either in BIOS or by software? Maybe the card is only getting up to 110°C but if the threshold is 105°C or something then it will always crash first, but if it's set at 115°C.
Well I think there is indeed such a setting but playing with that isn't a good idea as it is to protect the GPU, typically this threshold is set at 110°C to 130°C depending on the card, but really I don't advise to mess with that cause one the GPU is overheating it will cause permanent damage and you will face it rather faster than later and your warranty won't cover it if you messed with the threshold. So first is to look at the cooling solution and any good thermal paste will do, but I tend to opt for the Arctic Cooling MX-2 compound.
