Re:Flashing a GeForce 8800M GTX, laptop running SLI configs? - 2008/05/16 08:15
Hi guys, I did not have enough time to test properly the 1.15V voltage, I could bench succesfuly at 790/2066MHz in 3DMark06 and got 15500 points. However 3DMark Vantage crashed on the second video test. What I noticed is that the more one reach the limit of the GPU's the hardest is to get a stable high memory overclocking. For instance 2000MHz on the memory seems to be the sweet spot for high GPU and memory overclocking.
What I need to tell you guys is that for using 1.15V and 1.10V voltages you really have to use a proper cooling solution for the laptop as the temperatures are pretty high in the range of 75-80°C at least. Today, I will get my Zalman NC-2000 laptop cooler and hopefully it will bring down my temperatures to a more acceptable level. Also proping up the laptop is helping a lot with heat and is a must in my opinion. When setting the clock up with nTune you have to pay attention to real frequencies for the cores and shaders as from 766MHz up shaders are set to 2000MHz which might bring some instability.
You can check the real frequency with RivaTuner dumping the GPU registers. Also while at it you will see the voltage which GPU's are using for the different performance levels. As a conclusion I think 766/2000MHz clocks will prove stable in daily gaming but will come back with feedback on this after more testing. Mavke, again, thank you for your help and support, without you we wouldn't have been able to reach the limit of our chips!
