Re:NVIDIA BIOS Editor (NiBiTor) v4.0 software your feedback? - 2008/05/02 08:27
I'm not sure if this has already been discussed as I just joined these forums, but there is a serious problem with NVIDIA's GeForce 9800 series cards where when the GPU temp reaches over 60°C, the fan speed slows down to around 36% automatically. RivaTuner and other utilities that supposedly let you control the speed of the fan don't work unfortunately because even when you manually set the fan speed to 100%, when the GPU reaches 60°C, fan speed drops to 36% again.
My question is, will NiBiTor able to do anything about this? I've never used this utility before and I'm currently not home so I can't install and test it but any feedback is appreciated. NVIDIA recently acknowledged the fan speed issue and they say they have been working on a solution but everything is moving very slow. How much time do they really need to find the line of code that controls the fan speed setting and change a few things? It's very frustrating...
I just checked the GeForce 9 series BIOS's thread and I see that you already posted a BIOS for the EVGA e-GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB which is what I have, so I'm looking forward to any insight you might have regarding this issue and a possible fix through a BIOS or driver update before I go under the hood and do a dirty hack to manually control the fan speed through a controller or set it to 100% at all times or something equivalent. Thanks in advance!
