Upcoming Intel X38 chipset will do SLI, drivers to come... - 2007/06/27 20:27
When we wrote that Intel had a desktop SLI licence during Computex, we got a rare acknowledgment of our existence from NVIDIA press relations. To shorten up the conversation, they said we were full of it. To say we don't hold NVIDIA in high regard is far from understating the case. The firm is seen by most journalists as slightly lower on the happy things scale then finding infected leeches on your genitals after a swim in the sewer.
We didn't think it could be possible, but their standing dropped even further when we found out that Intel's upcoming X38 chipset will do SLI. Now we are sure that NVIDIA will deny it up and down, but seeing as how they have trouble with anything relating to the truth, I would urge the reader to ignore them. The engineers tell us that SLI drivers are in the final state of polishing with a few bugs left to quash, but plenty of time remains to finish things up.
In any case, it is not a surprise to anyone that this is happening, unless you work for NVIDIA press relations, they didn't see it coming at all. Other than a kick donkey euphemism gaming rig based on the X38 chipset, all this signals is the end of NVIDIA's chipset business. Upcoming Intel X38 chipset will do SLI, drivers to come...
