I don't get what you tried, you are running Vista and you are installing Windows XP drivers? I don't see any point in doing that, for Windows XP you use on the XP drivers and for Windows Vista only the Vista drivers. You don't start mixing as that will just cause more problems. Just get the latest drivers from NVIDIA for your Windows version and see what it gives.
