Re:Radeon X850 XT Problem - 2006/09/19 17:16 I have the same issue.

I just got a new Xtasy X850XT (VisionTech) from Dell for my Diminsion 8400 (stock, only upgraded the system BIOS). I installed the card with no problem and connected the PSU directly to the card using the 6-pin connector cable (no sharing). When I turn on the PC, you can hear the card's fan and motor, and then there is an all black screen with the message similar to makadus (red flashing letters telling me that the the card isn't plugged).

The funny thing is that I can plug and unplug the PSU into the card and it doesn't effect the motor and fan while the PC is on. Could it be that my PSU isn't delivering (enough) power through the dedicated 6-pin connection? I called Dell support and they couldn't figure out the problem and are suggesting that I return the card. Of course this could take weeks before I get a card that works, if the PSU isn't the problem. I'd rather get a PSU from Dell to test, and then send the card back if the PSU is not the issue.

I've had the 8400 for over a year. It's running MCE2K5 with a Audiology sound card and an ATI TV Tuner. I have two HDs, one @ 160GB and the other @ 250GB. The old graphics card was an X300 that cannot handle games with a controller at high resolutions (Turned Madden 07 and HL:E1 into a big choppy mess until I put it down to 800x600. Sucks).

Any and all help and advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
