Radeon 9800 Mobility, benchmarks crashes... - 2006/04/05 03:47
Hi there, I have just got a notebook Gericom EGO GT, with a Radeon 9800 Mobility. The problem is, 3DMark03 and AquaMark3 crash during benchmarking. Sometimes they crash after 30 sec, sometimes after 5 min, but they always do. I didn't install any game yet, as it is pointless right now I think. I tried the NGO and ForSage drivers, original Mobility ATI drivers, ATI Drives which comes on CD with notebook, of course every time I have used Driver Cleaner, before installation, but nothing helps. Benchmarks are running fine (no artifacts, rather smooth scenes) for a while and then error occurs.
When 3DMark03 exits to Windows and reports errors in "direcpll.dll", and AquaMark3 reports code: exception access violation, the thread tried to read from or write to virtual adress for which it does not have the appropriae access (damaged memory)? The Radeon runs at 350/600MHz 128MB 128-bit AGP4x version, without thermal gauge/sensor, so I don't know GPU temp. Didn't try to overclock yet and using ATI Tray Tools I turned off FastWrites but it did't help.
Everest reports it has 256MB avaliable AGP memory, but I can't find where to adjust it? There is no AFP aperture size in the BIOS or something. It also reports the HDD has 43°C, but CPU has 52°C (isn't it too hot)? Other components specifications... - Centrino P4 1.7GHz, 2 MB L2 cache - 2x PC3200 Apacer 512MB @ 166MHz (DDR333) 2.5-3-3-7
This memory is confusing me, because the i855 chipset only supports 333MHz memory max, so why Gericom puts 400MHz modules working at CL2.5 and 333MHz? So far I have got few theories... 1. The Radeon 9800 Mobility is broken 2. The CPU is getting to hot 3. The Radeon 9800 Mobility is getting to hot 4. Memory of Radeon or notebook memory are damaged
Any other, please?
